BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, has made Working Mother magazine's "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" list for the fifth consecutive year, it was announced today.

The company was recognized for its commitment to providing employees with work/life programs that help foster healthy moms, healthy babies and healthy families. For the 52,000 employees of Verizon Wireless, going to work every day may be a little easier knowing they are enjoying some of the best benefits offered to employees of any industry.

The only wireless carrier to be cited by the magazine, Verizon Wireless is being recognized for its wide array of work/life initiatives, such as its Healthy Babies program that helps improve employee quality of life throughout their pregnancy and after childbirth. The program was recently enhanced to include a lactation pump reimbursement, free lactation consultations, nutritional counseling, Lamaze classes and disease management programs.

Verizon Wireless also offers flexible work arrangements, childcare discounts, a prenatal exercise program and a Backup Dependent Care program. Introduced over the past year, the Backup Dependent Care program provides employees with access to back-up caregivers for children, adult/elderly dependents and spouses/domestic partners.

Verizon Wireless' dedication to meeting employee needs and providing them with the tools to balance work and family life has become even more of a focus during the relief effort following Hurricane Katrina. The company and its employees have done everything possible to help the communities affected in the Gulf Coast, including the more than 300 employees who have been severely impacted by the storm.

"We are honored to be recognized again by Working Mother for work/life initiatives that help provide balance to our employees, as well as their families," said Martha Delehanty, Verizon Wireless vice president-human resources. "Never have these work/life initiatives been more important than when tragedies, such as Hurricane Katrina, have struck. We are proud of the response of our people, who have given their time and energy to help fellow employees. This level of commitment is what truly defines our company and what makes Verizon Wireless a great place to work."

"We salute Verizon Wireless for their efforts on behalf of working mothers, and for making the 100 Best for the fifth consecutive time," said Carol Evans, CEO of Working Mother Media. "It is my hope that other companies around the country learn from the best and experience first-hand the value of flexibility as a business imperative."

In surveying the companies that made this year's list, particular weight was given to three areas: flexible scheduling, the most critical benefit for working mothers; child-care options, because without them parents can't work; and time off for new parents, because it's critical for mothers to bond with their newborns without suffering professionally.
