FARMINGTON, PA — With thousands of additional wireless customers expected to use its network during the 84 Lumber Classic at Nemacolin Woodlands this week, Verizon Wireless has upgraded its Farmington cell site to temporarily boost the coverage and capacity in the area for this event.
Golfers, spectators and members of the media covering the annual PGA event, as well as local residents, will benefit from the additional calling capacity, which enables more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently and to experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ring tones with the company's Get It Now® services.
"During large events such as the 84 Lumber Classic, local residents and visitors rely heavily on their wireless phones to keep in touch with friends and family," said Roger Tang, presidentOhio/Pennsylvania Region, Verizon Wireless. "Consequently, our network will be handling more call volume. We are temporarily increasing capacity for this event so our customers will continue to receive the reliable service they expect and deserve."
This enhancement is part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Pennsylvania and across the country. Since its inception in 2000, the company has consistently spent more than $4 billion annually-and more than $5 billion last year-to expand and improve its network nationwide. Approximately $250 million of this investment was spent in 2004 to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Pennsylvania.
