LOUISVILLE, KY — Verizon Wireless has installed additional equipment on several existing cell sites in metro Louisville and southern Indiana that increases capacity, enabling more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls, send and receive TXT and Picture Messages, and download games and ring tones, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

These network improvements enable Verizon Wireless to stay ahead of its growing customer base and increasing demand for its voice and data services in the following areas:

  • East side of Louisville, including: Oxmoor Mall, St. Matthews Mall and the Summit and Springhurst shopping areas
  • Downtown Louisville, including: University of Louisville and the Kentucky State Fairgrounds
  • Louisville International Airport
  • Indiana University Southeast in southern Indiana
  • New Albany, Ind.

"Whether our customers near Louisville and southern Indiana are shopping, attending college or traveling in the area, they will enjoy the reliable service they have come to expect from Verizon Wireless," said Greg Haller, president—Kentucky/Michigan/Indiana Region, Verizon Wireless.

Reliable service is fundamental to customer loyalty, and Verizon Wireless boasts the highest customer loyalty in the industry. During the second quarter of 2005, only 1.2 percent of its customers disconnected their service, which is well below the industry average.

"The value we offer our customers is closely tied to our industry-leading customer retention," Haller said. "Wireless consumers today understand that value is not defined by price alone. A major reason our customers choose Verizon Wireless and stay with us is because we offer the nation's most reliable network."

These recent improvements in Louisville and southern Indiana are part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Kentucky and Indiana and across the country. Since its inception in 2000, the company has consistently spent more than $4 billion annually-and more than $5 billion last year-to expand and improve its network nationwide. Approximately $25.6 million of this investment was spent in 2004 to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Kentucky and southern Indiana.
