YOUNGSTOWN, OH — Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, today announced the company will expand its network to the Youngstown area by launching service in Mahoning and Trumbull counties on Oct. 1.

Initial service will be available in these cities: Youngstown, Warren, Boardman, Niles, Ellsworth, Austintown and Canfield. Network service also will extend to the following areas:

  • Along Interstate 680 from Youngstown south to Lima
  • Along Interstate 80 from Cleveland northeast to the Pennsylvania border
  • Along Route 224 from Ellsworth east to the Pennsylvania border
  • Along Interstate 76 from Akron southeast to the Pennsylvania border

To provide the new network coverage, Verizon Wireless has invested nearly $9 million, with 33 cell sites in Mahoning and Trumbull counties scheduled for completion by Oct. 1.

"Youngstown is an exciting new market for us, and we are pleased that we will soon be able to offer consumers and businesses here the nation's best wireless network and customer service," said Roger Tang, president—Ohio/Pennsylvania Region, Verizon Wireless.

To serve area customers, Verizon Wireless will open five retail outlets in the Youngstown area and hire 40 local employees. The company's new stores are located in the following areas:

  • 439 Boardman-Poland Road, Youngstown
  • 5700 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles
  • Southern Park Mall, Boardman
  • Verizon Wireless at Circuit City, 7230 Market St., Boardman
  • Verizon Wireless at Circuit City, 2380 Niles Cortland Road SE, Niles

Greg Ruggaber, a 12-year veteran of Verizon Wireless, has been named district manager for the new stores and will be based in Canton, Ohio. Hiring for the 40 new positions already has begun, with some local employees already in training.

Verizon Wireless is dedicated to delivering outstanding customer satisfaction by offering quality services. Since its inception in 2000, the company has consistently spent more than $4 billion annually-and more than $5 billion last year-to expand and improve its network nationwide. Approximately $400 million of this investment was spent in 2004 to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Verizon Wireless has been recognized consistently as the leader in the U.S. wireless industry, not only for its network coverage, products and services, but also for its customer service. In the first half of 2005 alone, Verizon Wireless posted the lowest customer disconnect rate among national carriers and topped more than third-party surveys of customer satisfaction.
