BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, MI — Verizon Wireless officially opened its first store and kiosk in the Jackson area today during a grand opening celebration at one of the new locations at 1511 Boardman Road (within Circuit City in Blackman Township). To mark the occasion, the company presented a $5,000 donation to AWARE, Inc., a domestic violence organization serving Jackson County.

The second location is a kiosk in Jackson's Westwood Mall in Jackson. Verizon Wireless now has 68 company-owned stores and kiosks in Michigan. Each offers an expansive array of wireless products and services, including the latest handsets and accessories.

With the opening of these new locations, Verizon Wireless began offering service in the Jackson market. In August 2005, the company completed the purchase of certain spectrum licenses and operating assets from Leap Wireless International, Inc. With the deal, Verizon Wireless acquired Leap Wireless' operations and customers in Jackson, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and Flint, Mich. Those customers used Leap's Cricket® branded service.

"Our expansion into the Jackson area has been greatly anticipated by Verizon Wireless and area residents, alike," said Greg Haller, president—Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. "We're excited to introduce wireless phone users in Jackson to the nation's most reliable network, and we are committed to providing our customers with an accessible, knowledgeable sales staff who will provide superior service."

"We're thrilled to welcome Verizon Wireless to the area," said Jackson Mayor Martin Griffin who attended the grand opening. "We appreciate the company's commitment to the community with its generous donation to AWARE."

Verizon Wireless' donation to AWARE signifies its interest in contributing to the communities that support it, and the company's own corporate commitment to preventing and raising awareness of domestic violence.

"Blackman Charter Township Supervisor Raymond Snell, who also attended the event, said, "AWARE does an immensely important job assisting the many women and children who have experienced domestic violence. It is great to see how quickly Verizon Wireless is becoming an integral part of our community by supporting AWARE.""

The company's kiosk in Westwood Mall is managed by Connie Foley. It is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.—9 p.m., and Sunday, noon—6 p.m. The kiosk's phone number is 517-782-9462.
