Hawaii Wireless Users Benefit from $22 Million Investment by Verizon Wireless

HONOLULU, HI — Verizon Wireless announced today it completed a more than $22 million enhancement to Hawaii's voice and data wireless network in 2005. The investment includes adding and updating cell sites and other technologies to improve call quality, increase coverage areas, and enable a variety of advanced services such as text and picture messaging, NationalAccess, and other applications.

The network investment, which totals more than $77 million over the past four years is also key to maintaining strong coverage. "Providing customers with the nation's most reliable wireless network means making large-scale investments year after year," said Mark Yamauchi, Verizon Wireless sales director. "We've proven that these efforts pay off with strong network performance in Hawai'i based on testing by our real life test men and women."

Highlights of network upgrades in Hawai'i for 2005 include:

• A series of new cell sites improved coverage in Kaloko Industrial Park and Alii Drive on the Kona coast, as well as the Volcanoes National Park on the Hilo side of the Big Island, on Kauai at Barking Sands and Waimea Highway 30, and on Maui in Kapalua and along Piilane and Mokulele Hightways, as well as Maalaea Harbor.
