CHICAGO, IL — Verizon Wireless will sponsor a Mother's Day Benefit Concert for Mujeres Latinas en Acción, on May 13, 2006, at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, featuring internationally renowned top performers Pablo Montero, Pilar Montenegro and Nydia Caro. All proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit the Mujeres' programs and services offered at its new center, recently opened in the heart of the Latino community in Chicago.

Mujeres Latinas en Acción, the longest-standing Latina organization in the nation, currently serves about 9,000 clients a year. For the past 33 years, it has developed initiatives to empower Latina women and their families in Chicago to become self reliant and to improve the quality of their lives. Mujeres' programs provide services to address the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, parent support, homelessness, youth in crisis and Latina leadership.

Verizon Wireless is a recognized corporate leader for its commitment to preventing domestic violence and raising awareness of this issue and is a major contributor to Mujeres Latinas en Acción. Last September, the company made a substantial donation to the organization's technology center and also donated phones and free airtime service for both staff advocates and domestic violence victims. In addition, Verizon Wireless is the presenting sponsor for Mujeres' annual benefit gala being held this month.

"The generous contributions that Verizon Wireless has made to Mujeres Latinas en Acción are assisting us in the expansion of our capabilities and services to fulfill our mission in the new century," said Maria Pesqueira, president and CEO of Mujeres Latinas en Acción.

"We are grateful to Pablo Montero, Pilar Montenegro and Nydia Caro for joining forces with us to make this charity concert a reality," said T.J. Fox, president-Illinois/Wisconsin Region, Verizon Wireless. "Their efforts will go a long way to helping Verizon Wireless' ongoing campaign against domestic violence, as well as reinforcing our commitment to the Latino community, where we continue to grow in partnership-from both a philanthropic and business perspective.

It's so gratifying to be able to continue to support Mujeres Latinas en Acción, an organization that has made such a difference in the lives of so many women and families," added Fox.

The top artists performing at the Mother's Day concert, who are also advocates of Latino women and family victims of domestic violence, will bring to Chicago a unique musical show. Pablo Montero, known for his famous roles as an actor, will soon play a main role in another popular Univision soap opera; he is also well known for his singing career. Pilar Montenegro is a young and dynamic Latin pop singer now expanding her genre to reggaeton. Nydia Caro, who is recognized in Latin America and around the world, has performed at the most prestigious venues during her singing career that spans more than three decades.
