Verizon Wireless is deploying its Cell on Light Truck (COLT), a self-contained $500,000 mobile cell site used for rapid response in Arizona, to boost capacity at the Arizona State Capitol for Monday, April 10. The 25,000 lb. COLT features two retractable masts 30 and 60 ft. tall , a microwave antenna and an emergency power generator.
MOBILE CELL SITE FLEET:
Verizon Wireless owns, maintains and deploys a fleet of Cells on Light Trucks (COLTS) and Cells on Wheels (COWS) that can be mobilized quickly to provide wireless coverage and capacity in the event of a natural disaster or other community need.
In addition to the fleet of mobile equipment, Verizon Wireless' nationwide network reliability is supported by industry-leading redundancy and maintenance measures, which have proven particularly valuable during natural disasters and other emergencies. Standard Verizon Wireless network reliability features include battery back-up power at all facilities as well as generators installed at all switching facilities and many cell site locations.
In Arizona, Verizon Wireless invested more than $85 million in network enhancements in 2005. The company has invested more than $370 million over a five-year period in Arizona network upgrades alone.
