FRESNO, CA — As part of its commitment to the Fresno community, Verizon Wireless will host a free youth soccer clinic featuring Mexican soccer striker, Luis Hernandez. Known as "El Matador," Luis Hernandez is one of the most prolific scorers in the history of Mexican soccer. Hernandez will provide professional instruction during the Verizon Wireless soccer clinic in Fresno on Sunday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Space in the clinic is limited to the first 500 players who register on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Communications Store at 5195 N. Blackstone Avenue in Fresno. Boys and girls ages 5 to 17 are eligible to register. Clinic details will be provided upon registration.

All players will receive a free sports jersey and a water bottle. The first 100 participants will also get a free soccer ball.

"El Matador"
A Mexican soccer striker, Hernandez is one of the top all time goal scorers for the Mexican National Team. He scored important goals in various competitions, including Copa America, where he was the 1997 tournament's top scorer. He was also the top scorer in the 1998 CONCACAF's Gold Cup.

Hernandez first made a big impression on the world stage at the 1998 World Cup in France. He scored four goals, sparking the Mexican national team to a near upset of Germany in the second round and leading him to finish fourth in tournament scoring.

The Verizon Wireless' youth soccer clinic is part of the company's on-going commitment to add to the excitement of soccer for the community.

World Cup highlights on V CAST
Recently Verizon Wireless announced an agreement with Univisión, the leading Spanish-language media company in the U.S., to provide Spanish-language highlights from FIFA World Cup 2002 and 2006 to Verizon Wireless' V CAST customers--a first on wireless phones.

Once 2006 FIFA World Cup matches begin on June 9, 2006, V CAST customers will have access to video clips, recaps and highlights of all 64 matches right in the palms of their hands. Clips covering goals and key actions of the match with Spanish-language commentary will be on V CAST within 30 minutes after halftime and again at the conclusion of the match. In addition, customers will be able to watch a recap of the match, including all goals and key actions, within one hour of the end of each match. Additional details regarding 2006 FIFA World Cup content will be released in the coming months.

Customers wanting to upgrade their existing service plan to include V CAST or purchase a V CAST phone may do so by visiting a Verizon Wireless store including Verizon Wireless stores in Circuit City locations or go on-line to www.verizonwireless.com.
