BASKING RIDGE, NJ — As Verizon Wireless' Wireless Safety Week begins and people start looking forward to summer travel, the company is reminding customers about the many ways their wireless phones may come in handy when they're on the road.

Roadside Assistance — Verizon Wireless' Roadside Assistance service follows a customer's wireless phone, so emergency help in the United States or Canada is always easy to reach - whether the customer is in his or her own car, a friend's vehicle or a rental. The customer's wireless phone simply needs to be at the scene of the breakdown. For only $3.00 per month, emergency help including towing, lockout services, fuel delivery, battery boost, tire service, winching and mechanical adjustments is always a phone call away and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Find Your Way with VZ Navigator — Verizon Wireless has a service that allows customers to take their GPS system wherever they go so they can avoid being lost. With VZ Navigator, customers can instantly view maps of their current location, get audible turn-by-turn driving directions to any destination in the continental U.S., find nearby restaurants with the ability to place a call and make a reservation with one touch of a button and more. VZ Navigator is available on select handsets in the getGOING shopping aisle of the Get It Now® virtual store for $9.99 for unlimited monthly access, or $2.99 for 24-hour use.

Save Your Information — In the event that a wireless phone is lost or stolen, Verizon Wireless' Backup Assistant safeguards customers' wireless phone's address book and eliminates the need to manually retype contacts into a new phone. The service automatically saves a copy of the wireless phone's address book to a secure Web site, keeps it continually up to date and automatically restores information should customers ever switch their mobile phones. Backup Assistant is available for $1.99 monthly use purchase.

TXT Messaging — TXT Messaging is a quick and efficient way for customers to communicate and keep in touch with friends and loved ones, especially when they are traveling, have downtime or when they don't want to be overheard. Many news outlets, airlines and weather sources offer text messaging services to alert consumers about breaking news, flight information and current weather conditions. Additionally, customers with TXT Messaging-capable phones who dial directory assistance can even receive TXT Messages with the address and phone number of a desired location for no additional charge. Standard TXT Messaging rates apply.

Protect Your Handset — Finally, Verizon Wireless encourages all wireless phone users to take precautions to ensure their handsets aren't lost, misplaced or picked up by the wrong person. Customers should never leave their wireless phone unattended or visible in their car. And, customers should take extra care with their phones during times when they are likely to be distracted — for example at airline or rental car counters, at airline security checks and when traveling on a plane, bus or taxi.
