LAKE GEORGE, NY — In anticipation of a surge in summer season wireless usage by local residents and summer travelers, Verizon Wireless has beefed up its network capacity in Lake George by activating a temporary cell site in this resort town. The COLT (Cells on Light Truck) is a fully functional, generator-powered mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity, allowing more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls, send and receive TXT and Picture Messaging, and download games and ring tones. The company placed the COLT in Lake George to handle the influx of calls placed by summer travelers and vacationers who will be coming to town for events such as the Lake George Elvis Festival (June 2-4).

"On holiday weekends and throughout the summer, traffic on our network can increase by a factor of ten." said Gene Fassett, executive director of Network for Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York Region. "With the activation of this temporary cell site, our network is prepared to handle the expected increased activity throughout the busy summer travel season as residents and visitors use their wireless phones."

The temporary cell site is part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in New York State and across the country. Verizon Wireless has invested $30 billion in the last six years — $5 billion on average every year since the company was formed — to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. In Upstate New York, the company has invested over $500 million since 2001.
