BASKING RIDGE, N.J. — The Verizon Wireless network is designed for reliability and never was this more clear than during the devastating 2005 hurricane season. Verizon Wireless' ongoing network preparations helped the company quickly swing into action to maintain and restore wireless service in affected areas. Verizon Wireless also donated phones and wireless service and set up emergency communication centers to help evacuees place calls, re-charge their phones and receive technical support and customer service, free of charge.

Throughout the 2005 hurricane season, Verizon Wireless received numerous letters from Gulf Coast and Florida customers who praised the reliability of the company's wireless network.

One such customer, Cheli Strumila of Gulfport, Miss., wrote, "I am a victim of Hurricane Katrina. I want to commend you and Verizon Wireless for your outstanding service during this devastating tragedy here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast!! ...Verizon Wireless ~ Working for Victims of Hurricane Katrina!!"

Another customer, Jack Malcolm of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., wrote, "From the hours right after Hurricane Wilma hit through now I have been able to stay in touch with the outside world and keep my business running thanks to my Verizon Wireless air card. Please thank your network folks for a job well done."
