SYRACUSE, NY — In response to growing demand for the company's voice and data services, Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, has opened a new Verizon Wireless Communications Store at the Carousel Center in Syracuse. The new store, located on the second level by the food court, has been designed to make wireless shopping more convenient for new customers and to provide current customers with greater access to customer and technical support services.

As part of the store's grand opening celebration, Verizon Wireless will donate 20 wireless phones to the Catholic Charities' Dorothy Day House to distribute to local domestic violence victims for use in emergencies or life-threatening situations. The phones are provided through HopeLine® — Verizon Wireless' exclusive nationwide phone recycling program. Marking its 11th year in 2006, the HopeLine program distributes previously owned wireless phones to victims of domestic violence, supports non-profit domestic violence advocacy groups, and provides an environmentally safe method for recycling phones.

No longer used phones are collected and either recycled or sold for parts, with wireless phones and/or monetary donations benefiting domestic violence agencies and victims. Since the HopeLine phone recycling efforts began in 2001, consumers have donated nearly three million phones to HopeLine and more than 600,000 phones have been recycled.

The new store is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am — 9:30 pm, and Sunday from 11 am — 6 pm. The telephone number is 315-701-4720. The store employs 16 people. Verizon Wireless Communications Stores offer a premier line of digital wireless phones in all price ranges, data services and accessories.

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $30 billion — on average, $5 billion every year since the company was formed six years ago — to increase coverage and capacity, and to offer customers the most reliable service available in the nation, including wireless data services such as Picture Messaging, TXT Messaging, and the company's exclusive V CAST service. V CAST brings TV and other multimedia services to wireless phones over Verizon Wireless' high-speed BroadbandAccess wireless network, operating at average speeds between 400-700 kbps.
