Verizon Wireless Celebrates Grand Opening Of New Communications Store In Hummelstown, Pennsylvania

HUMMELSTOWN, PA — To stay ahead of growing demand for its products and services, Verizon Wireless, the nation's wireless leader in customer loyalty, will officially celebrate the grand opening of its first Communications Store in Hummelstown (near Hershey) with an array of activities on Saturday, Aug. 12, and Sunday, Aug. 13.*
As part of the grand opening celebration, Verizon Wireless will make a $1,500 donation to the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg, a local organization that provides services to victims of domestic violence. In addition, consumers will have the opportunity to sample the brand new Chocolate device-a tantalizing, ultra-thin mobile music handset designed to maximize the customer's music experience.
"This new store is the latest example of our commitment to providing our customers with increased convenience, an accessible, knowledgeable sales staff and our latest wireless devices," said Roger Tang, presidentOhio/Pennsylvania Region, Verizon Wireless. "Demand for our wireless products and services continues to grow as more consumers take advantage of our recent network expansion in this area."
In the first half of 2006, Verizon Wireless invested nearly $82 million in its western and central Pennsylvania network, adding and updating cell sites to improve call-handling capacity and call quality, increase coverage and expand advanced data services such as wide-area wireless BroadbandAccess, TXT and Video Messaging and other applications for businesses and consumers.
Other grand opening activities include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, radio remote events with WWKL-FM, appearances by the HERSHEY Product Characters and the kickoff of the Communication Store's special monthlong phone drive to collect no-longer-used wireless handsets and accessories for the company's award-winning HopeLine® program. For every handset collected at the Hershey store during the month of August, Verizon Wireless will contribute $1 to the YWCA.
Through the HopeLine program, most of the donated handsets and equipment are refurbished and sold, with proceeds going to support domestic violence awareness and prevention programs. Any remaining phones are recycled in an environmentally safe way. Donations can be made at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store at any time.
The new 1,500-square-foot store is Verizon Wireless' first retail location in the Hershey area. Store Manager Kimberly Castle will oversee a staff of 14 full-time employees.
