PERU, IL — Verizon Wireless announced today it has opened its first Communications Store in LaSalle County, in the community of Peru, bringing the latest products and services of the company that operates the nation's most reliable network closer to area consumers. The company has hired five local residents to fill newly created retail positions at the store.

The 2,200-square-foot store, located at 4329 Illinois Route 251 in Aaron's Shopping Center, includes separate sales and customer service areas to better serve consumers.

Local residents who have been hired to fill the store's new retail positions are:

  • Rebecca Sharkey of Peru — store manager
  • Andrea Fransicovich of LaSalle — assistant store manager
  • Aubrey Antolik of Peru — retail sales representative
  • Jackie Morris of Oglesby — retail sales representative
  • Heidi Heuser of Spring Valley — customer service representative

In addition, Verizon Wireless has named Jeff Quigley as assistant manager of the new store. Quigley previously served as a retail sales representative at the company's Communications Store in Bloomington.

"This new store reflects our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with increased convenience, an accessible, knowledgeable sales staff and our latest wireless devices," said T.J. Fox, president—Illinois/Wisconsin Region, Verizon Wireless. "Demand for our wireless products and new, sophisticated services continues to grow as more consumers take advantage of our recent network expansion in this area."

Earlier this year, Verizon Wireless activated 40 new cell sites in central Illinois- including one in Peru-that provided enhanced network service to an additional 200,000 area residents. The new cell site in Peru improved Verizon Wireless' voice and data network within the cities of Peru and LaSalle and in the surrounding area west to Saint Bede Drive, east to LaHarpe Street, north to Interstate 80 and south to the Illinois River. Coverage also is improved south of these cities along Illinois Route 251 to County Road 23 and along Illinois Route 351 to Illinois Route 71 on the north edge of Oglesby. Additionally, the cell site improved signal penetration into area buildings.

In the first half of 2006, Verizon Wireless invested nearly $81 million in its Illinois network to expand coverage, increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network.

The Peru store is one of more than 100 company-owned Communications Stores and kiosks in Illinois and is open Monday though Friday from 9 a.m.—8 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m.—7 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m.—5 p.m. The store's phone number is 815-220-0782.
