BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Wireless ranked highest among the top five national wireless providers nationally and scored significantly above the industry average in the J.D. Power and Associates Wireless Call Quality Performance Study Volume 2, issued today.

The J.D. Power and Associates Wireless Call Quality Performance Study employs a call quality index based on criteria that impact overall carrier performance. The wireless phone subscribers surveyed were asked about their experiences with static/interference, connection on first try, voice distortion, echoes, dropped/disconnected calls, immediate voice mail notification and immediate text message notification. Overall, Verizon Wireless performed above average in several categories, including calls with static, drops/disconnects, voice distortion and calls not connected on the first try.

"Our reputation as the most reliable wireless provider is a result of our continued investment of billions of dollars into our network and our unwavering commitment to turn this investment into quality service improvements for our customers," said Dick Lynch, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Verizon Wireless. "We have established rigid testing procedures that allow for objective comparisons of factors that affect network reliability, such as the wireless customer's ability to make and receive calls. We are committed to this process as a means of constantly monitoring and improving our network. This helps us to assure our network remains the one that our customers can rely on."

Verizon Wireless has invested $30 billion in the last six years -- $5 billion on average every year since the company was formed -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. The company's most reliable wireless network claim is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women who inspired the company's national advertising campaign. These engineers conduct more than 750,000 voice call attempts and 1.4 million data tests quarterly on Verizon Wireless' and other national carriers' networks while traveling more than 225,000 miles in specially equipped, company-owned test vehicles.
