SCHAMBURG, IL — At a time when many local employers are downsizing, Verizon Wireless is aggressively adding to its workforce. The company announced today it is seeking job applicants to fill 360 retail sales and customer service positions in its Illinois/Wisconsin Region, (which includes northern and central Illinois; Wisconsin; northern Indiana, including Gary and South Bend; Davenport, Iowa, and communities surrounding Davenport) by the end of this year. The job openings are in addition to the more than 300 positions filled by employees hired by Verizon Wireless in the Illinois/Wisconsin Region since the beginning of 2006.

Illinois/Wisconsin Region President T.J. Fox says the company's hiring trend is a result of its focus on perfecting the customer experience.

"Customer satisfaction is our number one priority," said Fox. "Our aggressive hiring is an effort to provide our customers with more personal attention and individualized service, and the best wireless experience possible."

Outstanding customer service is fundamental to customer loyalty, and Verizon Wireless boasts the highest customer loyalty in the industry. During the second quarter of 2006, only 1.1 percent of its customers disconnected their service, which is well below the industry average.

The positions at Verizon Wireless include openings for customer service representatives, customer service supervisors, assistant store managers, retail sales representatives and retail sales supervisors. All positions offer highly competitive pay and a bonus plan, as well as a generous benefits package including health coverage beginning on the first day of employment, merit increases, profit-sharing, dollar-for-dollar 401(k) company match up to six percent of salary, tuition reimbursement, an employee wireless phone discount program, and more.

While not required for all positions, a college degree and customer service and/or sales experience are highly desired. Potential applicants interested in working at Verizon Wireless can learn more about these current job openings by visiting www.verizonwireless.com/careers.

A Great Place to Work

In addition to being an industry leader in network reliability and customer loyalty, Verizon Wireless is consistently ranked as one of the best places to work in the country because of its employee-friendly policies. For five consecutive years, the company has been named one of Working Mother magazine's "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers." Health Magazine named Verizon Wireless one of ten U.S. employers revolutionizing workplaces to help women balance their professional and personal responsibilities.

Verizon Wireless also has been named to Training magazine's 2006 list of "Top 100 Training Organizations in America," making it the fifth consecutive year the publication has recognized Verizon Wireless for its training and development programs. The company ranked sixth among U.S. companies this year, up from 14th last year.
