INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless provider, announced today that its next-generation high-speed broadband network is now available in the greater Indianapolis and Fort Wayne areas. Based on CDMA 1x Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) technology, the enhanced wireless broadband network provides Verizon Wireless customers in Rev. A coverage areas with data uplink speeds significantly faster than the company's award-winning national EV-DO network, which the company rolled out in Indianapolis in June 2005 and in Fort Wayne in December 2006.

The EV-DO Rev. A coverage area extends across greater Indianapolis and includes Franklin, Greenfield, Lebanon, Martinsville and Shelbyville. The Fort Wayne coverage area includes Auburn, Huntington and New Haven.

The company's existing EV-DO network enables customers to access BroadbandAccess on their laptops, e-mail on their PDAs, and V CAST Video and Music on their wireless phones. The company's national wireless broadband network, the first in the nation, is already available to more than 200 million Americans in 242 major metropolitan areas and 180 major airports from coast to coast.

"Rev. 0 has enabled customers to work remotely and stay entertained in unprecedented ways; now we're taking wireless to the next level by introducing technology that helps them work faster," said Greg Haller, president—Indiana/Kentucky/ Michigan region, Verizon Wireless. "Our customers who enjoy the latest technology will applaud Rev. A's faster data uplink speeds for their cutting-edge devices."

The company's flagship business data service, BroadbandAccess, will run faster and more efficiently with the new EV-DO Rev. A network enhancements than with its predecessors. Customers in EV-DO Rev. A coverage areas can take advantage of upload speeds that are five to six times faster than that of the company's existing EV-DO network, while interacting with Web-based applications with improved latency for a better customer experience. For example, BroadbandAccess customers in EV-DO Rev. A coverage areas can expect average download speeds of 450-800 kilobits per second (kbps) and average upload speeds of 300-400 kbps. In Rev. A coverage areas, customers can download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment — the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file — in less than 15 seconds and upload the same-sized file in less than 25 seconds.

The first two EV-DO Rev. A-compatible devices to launch on the Verizon Wireless network are the new compact USB720 wireless modem and the AirCard 595 PC card from Verizon Wireless, which are fully compatible with the company's EV-DO Rev. A, Rev. 0 and CDMA 1xRTT networks. Greater Indianapolis and Fort Wayne area customers purchasing either device can take advantage of the benefits of Rev. A speeds when they are in Rev. A coverage areas; yet, when outside Rev. A coverage areas, the devices are backward compatible and work seamlessly across EV-DO Rev. 0 and 1xRTT networks. Greater Indianapolis and Fort Wayne area customers interested in purchasing either device can contact their local business sales representative at 317-607-6286. The devices are also available online at www.verizonwireless.com.
