BROWNSVILLE, TX — To stay ahead of the increasing demand for its products and services, Verizon Wireless, the nation's wireless leader in customer loyalty, has opened its newest retail location in Brownsville.

Verizon Wireless kicks-off the official grand opening the week of May 27. The new Communications Store, located at 508 Springmart Blvd. will conduct a wire-cutting cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 31 at 11:30 a.m. with the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce.

As part of the grand opening on Thursday, Verizon Wireless is inviting Brownsville citizens to donate their no-longer-used wireless phones as part of HopeLine®, a program dedicated to recycling wireless products to combat domestic violence. By dropping off a used cellphone or wireless accessory — regardless of condition, service provider or manufacturer — anyone can help provide a lifeline to local victims of domestic violence. During Thursday's ceremony, Verizon Wireless will donate $500 to the Friendship of Women, Inc., a local non-profit organization committed to preventing and ultimately ending domestic violence.

The grand opening will include a Fun and Sports Day at the store on Saturday, June 2, including appearances by former Dallas Cowboy Tony Casillas (12:30 p.m.), NASCAR driver Tavo "CT" Hellmund (1 p.m.), former San Antonio Spur Larry Kenon (2 p.m.) and professional bull riding three-time world champion Adriano Moraes (4 p.m.). In addition, 101.1 Romantica will broadcast from the store from Noon to 2 p.m., with 94.5 Rock broadcasting live from 4 to 6 p.m.

"Verizon Wireless strives to provide customers with the very best wireless experience," said Luis M. Cruz, region president for Verizon Wireless. "To maintain our position as the best and most reliable network in the nation as well as locally, we continue to invest in the Rio Grande Valley with enhancements to our network, new stores and cutting-edge services such as V CAST Mobile TV."

Additional grand opening activities on Saturday, June 2 include:

  • Fun and games including Xbox pit box interactive games, race experience truck simulators, bounce houses and face-painting;
  • A pair of Schlitterbahn tickets for the first twenty customers with a new phone activation;
  • Chance to win a Schlitterbahn family four-pack of season passes, Dallas Cowboys autographed footballs, Chivas ball caps and FC Dallas soccer balls.

The new Brownsville store features a full range of Verizon Wireless products and services and is fully staffed with bilingual employees to provide optimum customer service and technical support, allowing customers to speak with Verizon Wireless' highly trained representatives for all of their wireless needs.

The store hours for the new Brownsville store are Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Contact store manager Belinda Galvan at 953-350-9273.
