"Together with ASU, Verizon Wireless is integrating wireless into the fabric of the greater university community," said Tony Heyman, regional president, Verizon Wireless. "Our goal is to enhance the academic experience, university life and alumni benefits through access to cutting-edge wireless technologies."

"ASU's partnership with Verizon Wireless goes beyond providing more affordable wireless service," said Adrian Sannier, ASU vice president and university technology officer. "We are working together to design new, ubiquitous wireless solutions for the ASU community to make the most effective use of this advancing technology."

The mission of ASU's University Technology Office (UTO) is to provide technology leadership for the New American University. The new alliance with Verizon Wireless is part of the UTO's strategy of working closely with industry leaders to keep ASU at the forefront of technology in the service of higher education.

Verizon Wireless has invested nearly half a billion dollars in its wireless network in Arizona over the past six years to stay ahead of the growth in demand for our products and services and to ensure the most reliable network in the industry.

The company has invested $37 billion in the last seven years — $5 billion on average every year since the company was formed — to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services.

Verizon Wireless is the only major carrier with a 30-day network Test Drive pledge that pays for calls if a customer isn't satisfied and switches to another carrier.

The exclusive, five-year contract reflects a deepening of the ties between Verizon Wireless and ASU. The wireless company has been a proud "Sparky Level" supporter of Arizona State University Athletics since 2003.
