ALPHARETTA, GA — Verizon Wireless customer in the greater Atlanta area now have access to e-mail, everyday corporate data, the Internet, and more at faster speeds, uploading eight to nine times faster than before as Verizon Wireless rolls out the next-generation of its high-speed broadband network. Based on CDMA 1x Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) technology, the enhanced wireless broadband network provides Verizon Wireless customers in Atlanta with data uplink speeds significantly faster than the company's award-winning national EV-DO network, which was launched in the Atlanta area in September 2004. The metro Atlanta broadband coverage area spans nearly 3,000 square miles from Gainesville to Griffin. Across the state, the new Rev. A technology is now available in most major metropolitan areas including Albany, Athens, Augusta, Columbus, Macon, Milledgeville, Savannah, Warner Robins, and more. Nationally, the EV-DO Rev. A network covers more than 210 million people, 245 metropolitan areas and 194 airports.

The company's EV-DO Rev. A network enables customers to access BroadbandAccess on their laptops, e-mail on their PDAs, and V CAST Video and Music on their wireless phones. It also allows business customers to more efficiently access key programs such as Field Force Manager, a secure Web application using GPS technology that enhances information and process flow between field workers and the business office.

"We have been investing in the expansion and enhancement of our network in Atlanta and across the state for many years now. Since we originally launched EV-DO in Atlanta in 2004, our commitment to becoming the best wireless company in the state hasn't wavered," said Jeff Mango, president — Georgia/Alabama region, Verizon Wireless. "Now we're taking wireless broadband to the next level with the upgraded Rev. A technology that makes users even more productive, capable and connected thanks to faster data uplink speeds."

The company's flagship business data service, BroadbandAccess, will run faster and more efficiently with the new network enhancements. Customers in enhanced coverage areas can take advantage of upload speeds that are eight to nine times faster than with the company's existing wireless broadband network, plus interact with Web-based applications with improved latency for a better customer experience. For example, BroadbandAccess customers can expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps, translating to being able to download a 1 megabyte e-mail attachment — the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file — in about eight seconds and upload the same size file in less than 13 seconds. Customers who travel outside a BroadbandAccess coverage area with an EV-DO device will switch seamlessly to Verizon Wireless' existing NationalAccess network, with which customers experience average data transmission speeds between 60-80 kbps, with bursts up to 144 kbps.

To date in 2007, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $142 million in the expansion and enhancement of its network in Georgia and Alabama.
