What:
Verizon Wireless tapped its fleet of emergency mobile equipment to respond to a request from California Department of Forestry to boost wireless coverage for emergency crews battling the blaze in Antelope Valley, near Highway 395 in Northern California.

The COLT, known as "Mr. Ed," is a self-contained mobile cell site bred specifically for rapid and short-term network response. The COLT rides out to enhance wireless coverage so that emergency response teams and other Verizon Wireless customers can make more calls.

Why:
Verizon Wireless uses the COLT to charge up its network when there is a natural disaster or other unplanned event that calls for additional cell coverage and capacity.
