ASHEVILLE, NC — Verizon Wireless and UNC Asheville announce the extension of their sponsorship agreement that designates Verizon Wireless as the official wireless provider of Bulldog Athletics until 2010. As a result of this multi-year agreement, Verizon Wireless will provide the athletic department with all its wireless needs to keep the coaches and team connected no matter where their sporting events take them.

"We find Verizon Wireless' products and services to be a tremendous asset to our program, and look forward to continued success together," said Janet Cone, UNC Asheville athletics director. "We also recognize the importance of aligning with a company that reaches out to the community and so we have learned a lot about the company's national HopeLine® program that gives victims of domestic violence support right here in Asheville. With a great program like HopeLine, everybody wins."

So whether it's checking out the latest score of a Bulldog basketball game, finding out the results of the Bulldogs game online or getting the chance to be recognized as the winning Verizon Wireless VIP Fan at each men and women's UNC Asheville game, Verizon Wireless products and services will be at the heart of the Bulldog's athletic program.

"UNC Asheville athletics sponsorship provides Verizon Wireless with a prime opportunity to grow our presence and brand message by aligning with a respected educational institution and successful sports program," said Jerry Fountain, president of the Carolinas/Tennessee region of Verizon Wireless. "We are also grateful to the university for embracing our HopeLine program and hosting campus-wide phone collections through the school year to benefit survivors of domestic violence."
