LEXINGTON, SC — Verizon Wireless, the nation's most reliable network, recently expanded wireless coverage in Lexington, bringing customers the best in wireless voice and data services. Verizon Wireless customers will immediately experience enhanced coverage in the following areas:

  • Along Highway 6 from the Lake Murray dam to U.S. Route 378
  • Along Hope Ferry Road
  • Along U.S. Route 378 from Interstate 20 to Highway 6

The recent network enhancements enable more Verizon Wireless customers to use their wireless phones to make calls, send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages, access the Internet and download games and ringtones, while enjoying superior wireless coverage. These improved areas also have access to Verizon Wireless' national Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Rev A wide-area network that provides even higher-speed business and entertainment-based services on wireless phones, laptops and other wireless devices with Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess and V CAST multimedia services. Today more than 88 percent of the population in South Carolina has access to high-speed wireless broadband, an increase of nearly 62 percent since 2006.

"Lexington is one of the fastest growing areas in the state, and we have been working hard to keep up with its growth," said Jerry Fountain, president of the Carolinas/Tennessee region for Verizon Wireless. "Our expansion in Lexington is tied to our commitment to provide the best possible wireless experience for our customers, who make and send more than 11.6 million calls and text messages daily in South Carolina."

To stay ahead of the growing demand for the company's products and services, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $600 million in its wireless network in South Carolina since 2000 to ensure that it has the most reliable network in the industry. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $45 billion nationwide since the company was formed in 2000— $5.5 billion on average every year — to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and add the newest wireless services.

To meet customers' growing demand for wireless products and service in this growing community, Verizon Wireless also recently opened a new wireless communications retail store in Lexington at 5596 Sunset Boulevard (U.S. Route 378). The new Lexington store features a full range of Verizon Wireless products and services and is fully staffed for customer service and technical support, allowing customers to consult with Verizon Wireless' highly trained representatives about all of their wireless needs.
