Verizon Wireless And The Oakland Raiders Team Up To Provide A HopeLine For Survivors Of Domestic Violence In California

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Verizon Wireless and the Oakland Raiders are teaming up to help curb domestic violence. Starting in October, fans attending Raiders home games are invited to donate used wireless phones and accessories to benefit survivors of domestic violence through the Verizon Wireless HopeLine® program. A HopeLine recycling station will be located within the entrance to the D Gate at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum for the entire season. Fans can also donate used wireless phones and accessories at select Raider Image store locations in the Bay Area through Dec. 1, 2008.

Through the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program, used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any service provider are recycled or refurbished and sold. Verizon Wireless uses the proceeds to award grants and to donate wireless phones with prepaid airtime to local shelters and non-profit organizations to aid survivors of domestic violence.

Since 2001 when recycling and re-use became key elements of the national HopeLine program Verizon Wireless has collected more than 5.3 million phones and awarded more than $5.6 million in HopeLine grants throughout the country.
