LAWRENCE, KS — Verizon Wireless has donated $1,000 to Women’s Transitional Care Services, Inc. (WTCS) in Lawrence. The funds will be used to support the shelter’s Gas Cards program.
“Verizon Wireless has a strong history of supporting programs committed to raising awareness and breaking the cycle of domestic violence in our community,” said Lou Sigillo, president–Kansas/Missouri region, Verizon Wireless. “We’re proud to assist these organizations with their efforts to help women and children affected by domestic violence.”
WTCS provides safe-shelter, peer counseling, advocacy and other services to survivors of domestic violence in Douglas, Franklin, and southern Jefferson counties.
Founded in 1976, WTCS was the first battered women's shelter in Kansas. WTCS provides over 274 women and children with shelter and services every year.
