ROTHBURY, MI — Verizon Wireless has increased its data capacity by 500 percent and its voice capacity by 300 percent in and around the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, Michigan, to accommodate the estimated crowd of 50,000 at this year’s ROTHBURY festival, July 2-5.

Verizon Wireless deployed a Cell On Light Truck (COLT), which covers the area where the four-day festival will be held. A COLT is a fully functional, generator-powered mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity in a specific location. Additionally, the company upgraded equipment on its permanent cell site that provides service to the area to help boost capacity for the event.

“Individuals who attend major festivals like this one rely on their wireless phones, not only to keep in touch with friends and family members, but also to share pictures and video clips with those who are not at the event and even to download music right from their phones,” said Greg Haller, president–Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. “Our customers choose Verizon Wireless because they know they can depend on us every time they pick up their phones.”

These network enhancements are part of Verizon Wireless’ continual effort to expand coverage, improve capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Michigan and throughout the country. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $50 billion since it was formed—$5.5 billion on average every year—to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. More than $1.2 billion of that investment has been spent on improvements to the company’s network in Michigan.
