RICHMOND, KY — It’s now easier for residents in and around Richmond to purchase Verizon Wireless products and services, as the company recently converted the Cellular One store at 868 Eastern Bypass into a Verizon Wireless Communications Store.

The newly branded store, which is Verizon Wireless’ first company-owned location in Richmond, now features Verizon Wireless merchandising and handsets. With this change, Cellular One customers who want to transition to Verizon Wireless can activate new handsets and price plans at this store. Other Cellular One customers who do not wish to transition to Verizon Wireless at this time will continue to receive sales and service support on their existing accounts. Additionally, existing Verizon Wireless customers can now be served at this new location.

In 2008, Verizon Wireless acquired from AT&T Mobility some former Dobson Communications Corporation properties, including licenses, network assets and subscribers, in Kentucky RSA-6 and RSA-8. The Richmond Cellular One store was one of the properties acquired.

“Our goal is to offer all Verizon Wireless customers the best possible experience on the nation’s largest and most reliable wireless network,” said Greg Haller, president–Kentucky/Indiana/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. “That means transitioning Cellular One customers to Verizon Wireless handsets and price plans so they can enjoy the benefits of our 3G broadband wireless network, advanced device portfolio and industry-leading data services.”

Cellular One customers who transition to Verizon Wireless will immediately begin experiencing some of the benefits of joining with Verizon Wireless. For example, they will join Verizon Wireless Mobile to Mobile Calling family and can call any of the company’s more than 80 million customers without using their plan minutes. Additionally, when a Cellular One customer changes to a Verizon Wireless device and a qualifying price plan, he/she can benefit from the company’s Friends & Family feature at no additional cost. With this feature, the customer can choose up to five or 10 Friends & Family numbers (including those on other networks, office numbers or home numbers) and enjoy unlimited calling with them—anywhere within Verizon Wireless’ Nationwide Coverage Area.

“This dual point-of-sale operation gives Verizon Wireless an additional store in Kentucky,” Haller said, “and will help us ease the transition of existing Cellular One customers to Verizon Wireless ahead of our brand and billing conversion.”

The company is continuing to use the Cellular One brand until it completes the branding and billing system integration. This work is well under way and is projected to be completed in the fourth quarter.
