ERIE, PA — Verizon Wireless, the wireless company with the highest customer loyalty, has activated three new cell sites in Erie, which will enable more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls; send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; view high quality videos; access the Internet; and download music, games and ringtones, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

The new cell sites improve coverage:

  • South along State Street from East 12th Street to East 26th Street;
  • East along East 18th Street from Peach Street to McKinley Avenue;
  • South along Greengarden Blvd. from West 21st Street to West 36th Street;
  • East along U.S. Route 20 from Interstate 79 to Plum Street;
  • South along State Route 97 from Young Road to Townhall Road;
  • East along Interstate 90 from U.S. Route 19 to State Route 8.

"We've always believed even the most advanced cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on," said Roger Tang, president—Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, Verizon Wireless. "Our 3G high-speed wireless broadband network is the largest and most reliable in the United States, and field tests are underway that will enable us to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE (Long Term Evolution)-based 4G service in the U.S., starting in 2010."

This network improvement is part of Verizon Wireless' continual effort to expand coverage, improve capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Pennsylvania and throughout the country. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $50 billion since it was formed-$5.5 billion on average every year-to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. Over the past 18 months, the company has invested nearly $330 million in its Pennsylvania network.
