MAYSVILLE, KY — It's now easier for residents in and around Maysville to purchase Verizon Wireless products and services, as the company recently converted the Cellular One store at 167 Wal-Mart Way into a Verizon Wireless Communications Store.

Beginning today, the newly branded store features Verizon Wireless merchandising and handsets. With this change, Cellular One customers who want to transition to Verizon Wireless right away can activate new handsets and price plans at this store. Additionally, existing Verizon Wireless customers can now be served at the new location. Cellular One customers who do not wish to transition to Verizon Wireless at this time can continue to receive sales and service support on their existing accounts at the Maysville location until November 7.

Due to differences in Cellular One and Verizon Wireless technologies, Cellular One phones will not work after November 7, and all Cellular One customers will need to replace their Cellular One handsets with Verizon Wireless handsets by that date. To get their new phones, customers will have two options:

  • Go to the Verizon Wireless Communications store in Maysville, sign up for a Verizon Wireless price plan and purchase any new phone at a 25 percent discount. Customers' current phone numbers will be ported to their new devices at that time, and Verizon Wireless will waive any early termination and activation fees.
  • Select a free phone from a list they'll receive from Verizon Wireless giving them two or three predetermined options, based on the phone features they currently use. Customers can order their new phones from the Maysville Verizon Wireless store, mail in the order form, or call a toll free number (866-442-7919) to place an order. The devices will be shipped to their homes, beginning in early October. The new phones will begin working on Nov. 7.

The store changes result from a 2008 transaction in which Verizon Wireless acquired from AT&T Mobility some former Dobson Communications Corporation properties, including licenses, network assets and subscribers, in Kentucky RSA-6 and RSA-8. The Maysville Cellular One store was one of the properties acquired.

"Our goal is to offer all Verizon Wireless customers the best possible experience on the nation's largest and most reliable wireless network," said Greg Haller, president—Kentucky/Indiana/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. "That means transitioning Cellular One customers to Verizon Wireless handsets and price plans so they can enjoy the benefits of our 3G broadband wireless network, advanced device portfolio and industry-leading data services."

Cellular One customers who transition to Verizon Wireless will immediately begin experiencing some of the benefits of joining with Verizon Wireless. For example, they will join Verizon Wireless' Mobile to Mobile Calling family and can call any of the company's more than 87 million customers without using their plan minutes if activated on a National Calling plan. Additionally, when Cellular One customers change to Verizon Wireless devices and qualifying price plans, they can benefit from the company's Friends & Family feature at no additional cost. With this feature, customers can choose up to five or 10 Friends & Family numbers (including those on other networks, office numbers or home numbers) and enjoy unlimited calling with them-anywhere within Verizon Wireless' Nationwide Coverage Area.

"This dual point-of-sale operation will help us ease the transition of existing Cellular One customers to Verizon Wireless ahead of our branding and billing conversion," Haller said.

The company is continuing to use the Cellular One brand until it completes the branding and billing system integration on November 7.
