ELIZABETH CITY, NC — Business has been brisk at Verizon Wireless' new store at 900 W. Ehringhause Street in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. To demonstrate the company's commitment to the community and welcome new and existing customers, Verizon will be hosting a grand opening celebration the weekend of September 26-27 at the former Alltel location. In January 2009, Verizon Wireless completed its purchase of Alltel and has been working since then to re-merchandise stores, integrate and upgrade wireless networks, and convert billing systems to provide an enhanced overall customer experience.

The new Elizabeth City store is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The phone number for the store is (252) 331-1650. The store offers a variety of wireless products and services, including a strong line-up of more than 15 smartphones like the Samsung Omni™ and the HTC Ozone™, and a host of BlackBerry® devices.

Grand opening activities include food and fun for the whole family, and recycling of no-longer-used wireless phones through HopeLine® www.verizonwireless.com/hopeline, Verizon Wireless' phone recycling program which collects previously used wireless phones (all models, from all wireless carriers) and accessories to be refurbished, recycled and/or sold. Proceeds benefit victims of domestic violence through grants and the donation of wireless phones and service.

Since HopeLine's recycling program was launched nationwide in 2001, Verizon Wireless has awarded more than $7 million in cash grants to domestic violence agencies and organizations and distributed more than 76,000 phones with more than 228 million minutes of free wireless service to be used by victims of domestic violence.
