EL PASO, TX — The University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) Athletics Department and Verizon Wireless invite fans to go 'green' and help curb domestic violence in our community.

Fans attending the Miners' home game on Saturday, Oct. 3 can donate their used wireless phones and accessories to the Verizon Wireless HopeLine® phone recycling and reuse program. Drop boxes will be located at the information booths inside the Sun Bowl stadium. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

"We applaud Miners fans for helping make a difference by raising awareness of domestic violence and doing a good thing for the environment by keeping old wireless phones out of landfills," said Tony Heyman, regional president for Verizon Wireless. This is the fourth year Verizon Wireless and the UTEP Athletics Department have teamed up for a special game-day collection to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
