MARATHON, OH — Verizon Wireless, the wireless company with the largest 3G data network, has activated a new cell site in Marathon, which enables more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls; send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; view high quality videos; access the Internet; and download music, games and ringtones, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

The new cell site improves coverage in the town of Marathon and surrounding areas. Coverage is improved along U.S. Highway 50 from the town of Owensville northeast to the town of Fayetteville and along U.S. Highway 68 from Fayetteville south to the town of Mt. Orab.

"Even the most advanced cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on," said Roger Tang, president—Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, Verizon Wireless. "Our 3G high-speed wireless broadband network is the largest and most reliable in the United States, and field tests are under way that will enable us to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE (Long Term Evolution)-based 4G service in the nation, starting in 2010."

This network improvement is part of Verizon Wireless' continual effort to expand coverage, improve capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Ohio and throughout the country. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $50 billion since it was formed-$5.5 billion on average every year-to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. In the first nine months of this year, the company invested nearly $240 million in its Ohio network.
