BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Wireless Chief Information Officer Ajay Waghray has been named a recipient of the 2010 InfoWorld CTO 25 Awards. The InfoWorld CTO 25 Awards honor senior IT executives who have demonstrated leadership within their companies and in the IT community.

“The ability to be innovative and cost effective was very evident in this year’s InfoWorld CTO 25,” said Galen Gruman, executive editor of news and features at IDG’s InfoWorld. “This year’s honorees provided game-changing insight and managed both their own teams and key organization stakeholders to make their businesses succeed through the use of technology. Our honorees did much more than implement technology well; they brought its use to a new level.”

Waghray has been a leader of the Verizon Wireless Information Technology organization since the company was founded in 2000 and was named chief information officer in 2007. He is responsible for the company’s IT strategy, systems portfolio development, and operation of all supporting infrastructure.

Most recently, he was identified as “One Of 50 Outstanding Asian Americans In Business” by The Asian American Business Development Center (AABDC) in 2008, a “Premier 100 IT Leader” by IDG’s Computerworld in 2008, and “One to Watch” by CIO magazine in 2006.
