LOS ANGELES, CA — A continued commitment to diversity has earned Verizon Wireless the Corporate Diversity Award from the Mexican American Bar Foundation (MABF).

“Verizon Wireless’ corporate culture is impressive and needed to be recognized by our organization for making a difference in our community,” said Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha, president of the MABF. “Verizon Wireless has been a partner to MABF for many years and is committed to our mission of providing financial assistance to men and women of Latino heritage who intend to pursue careers in the law.”

“We must continue to work together to ensure that Latino students are pursuing higher education in the field of law and have the opportunity to fulfill their educational dreams,” said Steve Zipperstein, vice president – legal and external affairs, general counsel and secretary for Verizon Wireless. “It is organizations like the MABF that will help meet the needs of this profession, which has traditionally been underrepresented by ethnic minorities,” said Zipperstein, who formerly served as Chief Assistant United States Attorney in Los Angeles and has strong professional ties to the legal and legal education communities throughout the state of California.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Mexican American Bar Foundation for our ongoing commitment to diversity,” said Luis Cruz, president – Southern California Region for Verizon Wireless. “Diversity is part of Verizon Wireless’ culture and is an integral part of our business strategy, which cuts across all business groups and functions – from human resources and supplier relations to marketing and philanthropy.”

Earlier this year, Verizon Communications’ efforts to create a diverse workforce and an inclusive work environment again earned the company a ranking on DiversityInc magazine’s 2010 list of Top 50 Companies for Diversity®.
