NASCAR Fanatics At Bristol, Tennessee, For The Night Race Get Enhanced Wireless Coverage With Mobile Cell Sites From Verizon Wireless

BRISTOL, TN — Eager race fans will fill up the 150,000+ seats in Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn. this weekend for the Irwin Tools Night Race, and these stock car enthusiasts will bring along their cell phones, smartphones and netbooks. To keep the race-goers talking, texting and surfing the Web while they enjoy the cars and festivities, Verizon Wireless technicians have sent a high-tech Cell on Wheels (COW) unit and a Cell on Light Truck (COLT) unit to Bristol for the duration of the event.

With a 75-foot telescoping antenna and 13 dedicated voice and high-speed data channels, the COW can handle thousands of phone calls and data transmissions simultaneously. The unit will fortify Verizon Wireless’ network coverage in Bristol during the spike in network traffic expected during the race. The COLT is a self-contained mobile cell site able to process thousands of calls every hour. The COW and COLT will enhance coverage for wireless calls; text, picture and video messages; Internet connections; and other wireless traffic.

The Verizon Wireless network utilizes the most advanced 3G high-speed Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) wireless technology, allowing customers to enjoy clearer call reception and faster speeds when sending text or multimedia messages.
