STOUFFERSTOWN, PA — Wireless calling, text messaging and surfing the Mobile Web on the Verizon Wireless high-speed 3G network will be easier and faster for businesses and residents in Stoufferstown, Franklin County, thanks to the activation of a new cell site.

The new site increases coverage and capacity north along Interstate 81 to Exit 17 (Walker Road), south along Interstate 81 to Guilford Spring Road, east along Route 316 to Springview Road and west along Route 995 to Jack Road.

This enhancement is the second to take place in the past month in Franklin County. During August, a new site was activated in Mercersburg. This site increased coverage and capacity throughout the borough of Mercersburg, as well as north along Route 16 to Charlestown Road and Route 75 to Orchard Road, south along Route 16 to Christy Road and in the areas west of the borough to Charlestown Road.

With the improved network coverage, customers can use their wireless devices to send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; view high-quality videos; and access VZ Navigator®'s turn-by-turn directions, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls. The Verizon Wireless network also is built for reliability during emergencies, such as power outages and extreme weather conditions, with redundancy capabilities in place to maintain service for customers when they need it the most.

These network enhancements are part of Verizon Wireless' aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company's voice and data services. Since the company was formed, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $60 billion – $5.7 billion on average every year – to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. The company’s ongoing network investment in the region now totals more than $1.5 billion.

Verizon Wireless has the largest and most reliable 3G network coverage area in the United States. Its 3G data network provides its customers in more locations than any other wireless carrier the ability to browse the Web faster with quicker page loading times, quickly download and play music, watch streaming video, send e-mails with attachments, download and play 3D games, video conference with contacts and rapidly share files. "We've always believed even the most advanced cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on," said Mario Turco, president of Verizon Wireless’ Philadelphia Tri-State Region." Our 3G high-speed Mobile Broadband network is the largest and most reliable in the United States, and field tests are underway that will enable us to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE (Long Term Evolution)-based 4G service in the U.S., starting in 2010."

Demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the second quarter of 2010 when the company reported a total of more than 92 million customers. The company also earned recognition from J.D. Power and Associates for “Highest Call Quality Performance among Wireless Cell Phone Users in the Mid-Atlantic.”

Verizon Wireless' team of 100 test men and women – the largest single team of systems performance engineers deployed by a U.S. wireless service company – provides the support for the company’s “nation’s most reliable wireless network” claim. Using sophisticated testing equipment, Verizon Wireless’ Philadelphia Tri-State Regional team of network technicians conducted 57,336 voice call attempts and 330,717 data tests on the Verizon Wireless network and the networks of major competitors while traveling 15,000 miles across the region in the first half of 2010. Nationally, Verizon Wireless test men and women drove a total of 497,700 miles and conducted 1.69 million voice call attempts and 9.7 million data tests from January through June 2010.
