CHICAGO, IL — Verizon Wireless today announced the kickoff of its "Hope for the Holidays Toy and Book Drive." The drive will benefit Palatine, Ill. domestic violence shelter, WINGS, and provide gifts for children affected by domestic violence.

Donations of new toys and books can be made through Thursday, December 9 at any participating Verizon Wireless Communications Store in Chicagoland during regular business hours. For a complete listing of store locations please see below.

Along with new books, donated gifts may include items such as coloring books, crayons, board games, dolls, action figures, video games and video game systems, arts and crafts kits and G-rated DVDs. All donations should be packaged, but unwrapped.

"Children are often the forgotten victims of domestic violence," said T.J. Fox, president-Illinois/Wisconsin Region, Verizon Wireless. "Those living in and supported by the domestic violence shelters and service organizations need love and support. By making a small donation of a new toy or book, people can help make the holiday season special for a child impacted by domestic violence. We invite Chicagoland residents to join us in this important drive, and hope these donations put a smile on the face of every child who receives a gift."

"This is another example of a company that understands that combating domestic violence requires assistance from business partners and community leaders," said Rebecca Darr, executive director of WINGS.

WINGS provides integrated services, including shelter, education and guidance for homeless and abused women and children. They provide secure living environments, though transitional housing and emergency shelter, in residential neighborhoods that allow women to go to school, work and achieve financial independence.
