HOUGHTON LAKE, MI — Verizon Wireless has activated two new cell sites in Roscommon County that improve voice and data coverage in portions of the county, including Houghton Lake and along the following major roads and areas:
- U.S. Route 127 from County Road 104 (Pine Road), south to about four miles north of the Clare County line;
- Michigan Highway 18 from Prudenville, south to near the Clare/Gladwin County line;
- County Road F-97 (Maple Valley Road) from Michigan Highway 55, south to just north of the West Twin Lakes area;
- The north shore line of Houghton Lake to Flint Road;
- and Michigan Highway 55 west of Houghton Lake to North Star City Road.
The new cell sites, which are each equipped with a permanent backup generator for times of emergency, enable more Verizon Wireless customers to rely on their wireless devices for social networking, Internet browsing, downloading apps and music, exchanging e-mail and text, picture and video messages, watching high-quality videos and making calls.
The company’s ongoing network investment in Michigan now totals more than $1.5 billion. Nationally, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $60 billion since it was formed – $5.7 billion on average every year – to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services.
