ST. LOUIS, MO. — The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Inc. and Verizon Wireless today announced a call for nominations for “Everyday Heroes,” a Black History Month program aimed at recognizing modern day heroes who make a difference in the community and who touch the lives of others. Everyday Heroes are the teachers, mentors, volunteers, clergy or family members who give of their time and resources in creative ways to affect change – either in the life of an individual, family, school or community.
“Here at the Urban League we touch the lives of thousands of individuals each year to help them establish their own success stories – whether assisting children or teens with their studies, or helping adults secure gainful employment,” said James H. Buford, president of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Inc.. “We know that the people we reach are returning to the community and sharing their own acts of philanthropy – lending their time and skills to help guide someone else through a trial or to usher them up the ladder of success. We’re excited to be partnering with Verizon Wireless to recognize the Everyday Heroes who continue on in the tradition of the Urban League.”
“Everyday Heroes is a great opportunity to express your gratitude to someone who has empowered you or inspired you through their community service,” said Brendan Fallis, president – Kansas/Missouri Region, Verizon Wireless. “We recognize the power of one person to create change and improve their surrounding environment. Everyday Heroes is an extension of our commitment to greater St. Louis, and we’re proud to partner with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, an organization that is heroic in its own right, on such a worthy program.”
