MIDDLETOWN, OH — The Verizon Wireless Communications Store in Middletown is one of 41 Verizon Wireless retail stores nationwide, to have received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

The LEED certified Communications Store —located at 3663 Towne Boulevard — optimizes water and energy use, enhances indoor environmental quality and reduces waste through specifications and responsible procurement and construction practices, including:

  • Energy Savings: 50 percent less energy consumption thanks to high efficiency lighting. Energy savings and carbon reductions from energy management system and Energy Star equipment including sales terminals and HVAC system. Estimated 1,400 gallons per year in water-saving through installation of low-flow plumbing fixtures.
  • Material Reuse: recycled-content materials used in the store, including in ceiling tiles, flooring and display fixtures.
  • Phone Recycling: the store is a collection point for the company's long-running HopeLine® phone recycling program that collects no-longer-used phones and equipment. The used phones are either refurbished or recycled. With the funds raised from the sale of the refurbished phones, Verizon Wireless donates wireless phones and airtime to victims, and provides funding and other contributions to non-profit domestic violence shelters and prevention programs across the country. Through HopeLine, more than 1.6 million phones have been properly disposed of in an environmentally sound way and more than 200 tons of electronics waste and batteries have been kept out of landfills since 2001. Employees can also recycle paper, glass, plastics and aluminum on-site.
  • Paperless Billing: Customers can save trees by signing up while at the store for My Verizon, enabling them to access their account information online anytime and anywhere. Verizon Wireless' Green Bill puts account information online, at customers' fingertips. Customers can view itemized charges on their accounts or make payments all from the website. There's no need to receive a paper bill in the mail anymore.
