FORT LAUDERALE, FL — Verizon Wireless, the nation’s leading wireless company with the largest, most reliable voice and data network, has activated a new advanced digital cell site in Fort Lauderdale to enhance high-speed broadband wireless services for beachside residents, businesses and visitors.

The new Verizon Wireless site is located near Birch Road north of Las Olas Boulevard and will enhance in-building coverage at the numerous hotels, condominiums, businesses and homes along the beach as well as west of route A1A.  The site further strengthens the nation’s most advanced 3G (EV-DO Rev. A) high-speed broadband network to improve customer experiences in making voice calls, sending e-mails, text and picture messages, connecting to the internet and accessing tens of thousands of applications, games, video, music and many other features from their phone, notebook, netbook, tablet or other wireless devices.

The Verizon Wireless 3G network covers about 98 percent of Florida’s population and land mass, and will provide customers with high-speed wireless services for many years to come.

In addition, Verizon’s newest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network is available on Fort Lauderdale’s beachside and in other key areas of Broward County.  LTE launched here and numerous other major Florida markets earlier this year.  The Verizon 4G LTE service is scheduled to cover all of Florida by the end of 2013.

The new cell site and services are part of Verizon Wireless’ ongoing investment to provide customers throughout the state with the most advanced wireless coverage and technologies.  Since the company formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has spent more than $2.2 billion in Florida to enhance its network across the state. Nationally, the company has invested more than $65 billion to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services.
