This is the sixth year the annual Corporate Classic 5K event has been sponsored by Verizon, and will feature a $10,000 donation from HopeLine® by Verizon, the company’s community relations program dedicated to domestic violence awareness and prevention, to Jersey Battered Women’s Shelter. “The Verizon Corporate Classic is a great way to bring together co-workers and members of the community for an evening of fun and wellness while also giving back to a very worthy local non-profit organization focused on the prevention and awareness of domestic violence,” said Nancy Clark, president, Northeast Area, Verizon Wireless. “We want to thank everyone who has supported this important cause in the past, and we hope to make this year’s event the most successful one yet.”

Through HopeLine, Verizon Wireless collects no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider. The phones are then refurbished or recycled in an environmentally sound way. Refurbished phones, pre-programmed to dial 911 in case of an emergency, are donated along with 3,000 minutes of wireless service to local domestic violence organizations, local government officials and law enforcement agencies for use with their domestic violence clients. Verizon Wireless was the first wireless carrier in the nation to collect and recycle used cell phones, and has done so on behalf of survivors of domestic violence since January 1999 – first in New York and then across the U.S. For store locations and to learn how to donate a phone using a postage-paid mailing label, visit www.verizonwireless.com/hopeline.
