BASKING RIDGE, NJ and MONARCH BEACH, CA — Verizon Wireless has once again been named one of the nation’s top technology innovators by InformationWeek. Verizon Wireless ranks among the top 100 and is the highest ranked wireless company on the annual list, based on demonstration of a pattern of technological, procedural and organizational innovation, as determined by InformationWeekeditors.

Verizon Wireless was selected for the creation of its streamlined Iconic Sales Portal that was developed for launches of high-demand consumer devices. The portal enabled the successful launch of eagerly anticipated devices, such as the iPhone 4 and the DROID BIONIC™ by Motorola. The portal streamlined the sales process across all of Verizon Wireless, reducing the time it takes for customers to complete purchases at all touch points.

“We are pleased that InformationWeek once again has chosen to recognize Verizon Wireless’ continued commitment to delivering an outstanding customer experience and business value through innovation and technology leadership,” said Ajay Waghray, chief information officer of Verizon Wireless. “Our company’s innovative culture and commitment to excellence is exemplified by our IT team which continues to create and deliver new tools for our customers and business partners to enable the best wireless experience.”

“For 23 years, the InformationWeek 500 has chronicled and honored the most innovative users of business technology,” said InformationWeek Editor In Chief Rob Preston. “In this day and age, however, being innovative isn’t enough. Companies and their IT organizations need to innovate faster than ever before to stay a step or two ahead of their customers, partners and competitors. This year’s ranking placed special emphasis on those high-octane business technology innovators.”

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation’s most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.

The InformationWeek 500 list was announced last night during a gala awards ceremony at the InformationWeek 500 Conference in Dana Point, Calif. For complete coverage of the 2011 InformationWeek 500, visit www.informationweek.com/500.
