EAU CLAIRE, WI — Verizon Wireless today announced a $10,000 Verizon Foundation grant for Bolton Refuge House in Eau Claire. The grant will help the organization continue to reach toward its mission to empower and enhance the safety and well-being of domestic violence survivors.

“With the help of organizations like the Verizon Foundation we are able to continue providing life-saving services for victims in our community,” said Gerald Wilkie, executive director, Bolton Refuge House. “The community, victims and their children are thankful for Verizon's support. This is a wonderful example of a business supporting the community to be a healthy and safe place for all.”

The grant was presented by Verizon Wireless on behalf of the Verizon Foundation.

“Verizon Wireless is honored to be able to offer this grant to Bolton Refuge House,” said T.J. Fox, region president, Verizon Wireless. “In these difficult economic times, nonprofit organizations are in even greater need of corporate support and involvement.”

The Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications, supports the advancement of literacy and K-12 education through its signature program, Thinkfinity.org, and fosters awareness and prevention of domestic violence. In 2010, the Verizon Foundation awarded nearly $67 million in grants to nonprofit agencies in the U.S. and abroad. Through Verizon Volunteers, one of the nation’s largest employee volunteer programs, Verizon employees and retirees have volunteered nearly six million hours of community service since 2000.
