INDIANAPOLIS, IN and BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Engineers Kim Prather and A.J. Kalb with Cell Technician Mauricio Contreras (center) will be testing Verizon Wireless’ network in downtown Indianapolis during Super Bowl weekend. Prather and Kalb demonstrate the portable equipment that will be used to test Verizon Wireless’ voice and data network.

The Super Bowl is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many NFL players and fans. That’s why Verizon Wireless is making sure that customers who are traveling to be part of the excitement of Super Bowl XLVI can capture and share special moments using the nation’s largest 4G LTE network and fastest 4G network.

This will be the first year that 4G LTE technology is available for smartphone and tablet users at the site of Super Bowl XLVI, offering the fastest data speeds available for the many Verizon Wireless customers among the anticipated 150,000 NFL fans visiting Indianapolis for The Big Game.

Verizon Wireless – the official wireless service provider of the NFL – has enhanced its network at more than 30 venues in Indianapolis, including major hotels and all of the facilities where the game and related events will take place. These enhancements will enable Verizon Wireless customers to share moments and stay connected at pregame pep rallies and tailgates, while watching the game and halftime shows, and during postgame celebrations.

Winning Wi-Fi for All

Verizon Wireless also has constructed new Wi-Fi systems at the stadium and convention center that complement its network. In addition, unlike other systems, the Verizon Wireless Wi-Fi system will be available to all wireless users – not just Verizon Wireless customers – so all may surf the Web, share photos and tweet using the Wi-Fi system.

Extra Points for Testing

Verizon Wireless engineers have been assigned to test and monitor the network in the days before and on game day. They will patrol the stadium area – as well as downtown Indianapolis – with portable equipment in a small carrying bag that tests the voice and data network during the game to ensure game-goers and fans across the city enjoy the full power of the Verizon Wireless network.

Mobile Command Center Scores Support

While the Verizon Wireless network is center stage, the company’s 51-foot state-of-the-art emergency mobile command center will stand ready to support public safety officials and help back up the city’s primary command center at the Super Bowl. Decked out with the latest communications equipment and capabilities and meeting special Federal Emergency Management Agency criteria, city emergency activities can be transferred and emergency operations can be coordinated, if needed, from the back-up unit.
