LITTLE ROCK, AR — Beginning Feb. 16, Verizon Wireless customers in Jacksonville and Cabot can take advantage of the company’s 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, the fastest 4G wireless broadband service in the nation.

The speed of the Verizon 4G LTE network allows users to enjoy the best experience when they stream video, share music and photos, download files, and surf the Web, with speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G networks.

A total of 13 cell sites in and around Cabot, Jacksonville, Sherwood, the Little Rock Air Force Base, Ward, Austin and Gravel Ridge were activated to operate on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. With this expansion of 4G LTE coverage, Verizon customers can access the nation’s fastest, most reliable wireless network continuously from Little Rock to Searcy along the Hwy. 67/167 corridor.

“We are the only wireless provider to offer 4G LTE speed in Arkansas, and with the addition of Jacksonville and Cabot, Verizon now offers its central Arkansas customers uninterrupted 4G LTE service from the capital city all the way to Searcy along one of the state’s most well-traveled roadways,” said Dean Taylor, president of Verizon Wireless in Arkansas.

Posting an investment of $98 million in its wireless broadband and voice networks in Arkansas in 2011, Verizon Wireless has more 4G LTE expansions planned in the state for 2012.

“We are working to provide more and more Arkansans with access to the nation’s fastest wireless broadband service,” said Taylor. “We will continue to enhance our 4G LTE network in the state, enabling individuals, businesses of all sizes, government entities and schools that rely on high-speed wireless communications to stay connected and conduct business on the go with the speed and connectivity offered in Arkansas only through Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE technology.”

4G LTE Coverage and Speed

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers from Little Rock to Searcy should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

With the expansion of 4G LTE along Hwy. 67/167, the nation’s fastest wireless network is now available in 18 Arkansas communities and their surrounding areas, including:

  • Beebe
  • Bella Vista
  • Bentonville
  • Bryant
  • Cabot
  • Conway
  • Fayetteville
  • Fort Smith
  • Jacksonville
  • Jonesboro
  • Little Rock
  • Maumelle
  • Morrilton
  • North Little Rock
  • Rogers
  • Searcy
  • Sherwood
  • Springdale

When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected across Arkansas. Verizon Wireless’ 3G network covers 96 percent of Arkansas and is the largest, most reliable voice and high-speed data network in the country. Customers in 3G coverage areas who use 4G LTE devices can take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when they travel to an area already covered by 4G LTE, or when the faster network becomes available in their city. Verizon Wireless plans to cover its nationwide 3G network footprint with its new 4G LTE network by the end of 2013.

4G LTE Devices and Plans

Verizon Wireless customers can purchase a variety of 4G LTE-enabled devices, and the company announced six new 4G LTE devices at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that will connect to the fastest network in the country. From the expanded 4G LTE DROID family, to the new Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 7.7 and the Verizon Jetpacks™, Verizon Wireless now offers something for everyone on its 4G LTE network.
