ALTUS, OK — Verizon Wireless today announced the launch of its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Altus, the most recent move as part of the company’s quick and aggressive roll-out of its 4G LTE network across Oklahoma. Verizon Wireless customers in Altus can now take advantage of the nation’s fastest and most reliable 4G LTE network, providing them the best experience in wireless data usage when they stream video, share music and photos, download files, and surf the Web – all at speeds up to 10 times faster than on 3G networks.

“The addition of our 4G LTE network gives the community of Altus a number of wireless options it hasn’t had in the past,” said Dean Taylor, president of the South Central Region for Verizon Wireless. “Customers, including businesses and local government, can get data in real-time with no delays. That includes live video security with no delays, live teleconferences with no buffering, live fleet tracking, remote monitoring of crops or oil and gas pipelines – there are a number of opportunities here.”

Verizon’s launch of its 4G LTE network in Altus is the first in the community and the only 4G LTE network to date in Southwestern Oklahoma. The company launched 4G LTE in Lawton in January.

“We are quickly expanding our 4G LTE network statewide, both in large cities as well as rural areas, so our customers can take advantage of the benefits of 4G LTE wherever they travel,” said Leo Perreault, executive director of Network for the South Central Region of Verizon Wireless. “Verizon’s 4G LTE network currently covers more than half of the population of Oklahoma, offering Oklahomans more 4G LTE coverage than they can get from any other wireless provider.”

Verizon Wireless was the first to bring 4G LTE to Oklahoma, turning on the network in Oklahoma City on December 5, 2010 as part of the company’s initial nationwide launch. Today, Verizon covers more cities in Oklahoma with 4G LTE than any other wireless carrier. That coverage includes Altus, Greater Oklahoma City, Greater Tulsa, Lawton, Bartlesville and communities across Oklahoma.

4G LTE Coverage and Speed

The launch of 4G LTE in Altus, along with Verizon Wireless’ growing presence statewide as the first, largest and most reliable 4G LTE network shows the company’s commitment to providing customers in large cities and rural areas of Oklahoma with network reliability and speed. Nationally, more than 200 million people are covered by Verizon’s 4G LTE network.

In real-world, fully loaded network environments Verizon 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast. Verizon Wireless’ 3G network is the most reliable high-speed data network in the country and allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their area, or when they travel to areas already covered by 4G LTE.

4G LTE Devices and Plans

Verizon Wireless customers can purchase a wide variety of 4G LTE devices, including the DROID 4 by Motorola and the DROID RAZR™ MAXX™ by Motorola, that will connect to the nation’s fastest 4G network.
