DALLAS, TX — Verizon Wireless reports that its wireless communications network is operating normally today after several tornados brought havoc to North Texas yesterday. Despite the severity of the storms, none of its transmission towers were damaged.

“At this point, we are making sure that we have the capacity to handle the large volume of calls expected today so that first responders can continue to communicate and people affected by the storms can be in touch with loved ones, neighbors and friends, as well as contact repair providers,” said Frank Antonacci, Central Texas Region president for Verizon Wireless.

Verizon makes sure that it has back-up systems in place in the event that strong weather damages its network infrastructure, said Lee Maschmann, executive director of network for the region. “We have a good supply of generators and COWs (Cell on Wheels) ready to deploy if they are needed to restore communication to affected areas,” he said.
