NEW ORLEANS and BASKING RIDGE, N.J. — New Orleans is one of 37 U.S. cities where Verizon Wireless has outperformed the competition in combined data, voice and text performance in independent wireless network testing conducted so far this year by national research company RootMetrics®.

“As consumers and businesses increasingly turn to wireless technology as an integral part of their daily lives and work, it’s important that their devices run on a network that’s available when and where they need it,” said Bill Moore, chief executive officer of RootMetrics. “Our reports and maps provide consumers with the data they need to make an informed decision when selecting a wireless company and the network that will best meet their data, text and calling needs.”

RootMetrics’ RootScore™ Reports highlight data, call, text and overall performances of the major wireless carriers’ networks in a specific geographical area. To evaluate the networks in each specific market, a team of RootMetrics employees conducts tests over a period of several days, covering all hours of the day and night. Using current off-the-shelf smartphones available to the public at the time of testing, the evaluation focuses on popular consumer activities, including making phone calls, uploading and downloading files from the Internet, and sending and receiving texts in an effort to reflect the consumer experience in a specific geographical area.

“Verizon Wireless offers the premier wireless voice, text and data services in the nation,” said David Small, vice president and chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless. “Today, our blazing fast 4G LTE data network covers more than six times the geography of our nearest competitor’s 4G LTE network as we continue to roll out and expand our 4G LTE network across the country. Once again, a respected third-party test program has highlighted our consistent network quality, which demonstrates our commitment to provide our customers with a superior wireless experience in the United States.”

RootMetrics announced today that Verizon Wireless won the RootScore Combined Performance award for network performance in New Orleans. Additionally, this year in testing, the company has won Combined Performance in Atlanta; Chicago; Denver; Detroit; El Paso, Texas; Honolulu; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Memphis, Tenn.; Miami; New York; Oklahoma City; Omaha, Neb.; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Pittsburgh; Portland, Ore.; Sacramento, Calif.; San Diego; San Francisco; San Jose, Calif.; Seattle; St. Louis; Tampa, Fla.; Tucson, Ariz.; Tulsa, Okla.; and Washington, D.C.

Verizon Wireless also received the RootScore Combined Performance award in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Concord, Calif.; Fresno, Calif.; McAllen, Texas; Mission Viejo, Calif.; Riverside-San Bernardino, Calif.; Toledo, Ohio; Virginia Beach, Va.; and Worcester, Mass. The company ranked second in Combined Performance in Austin, Texas; Dallas; Houston; Indianapolis; and San Antonio.

The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network is now available in 230 markets and covers more than two-thirds of the U.S. population. Verizon Wireless continues to lead the industry in 4G LTE deployment, and by the end of 2012, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network will be available in more than 400 markets, covering more than 260 million people in the United States.
